2020 Review

Creating ways to thrive, especially during a pandemic was our biggest challenge for 2020.  Before the Covid Pandemic, we were able to reach out to cancer patient's via personal visits, prayer time, meals, and physical fundraising events.

Since that couldn't happen during the state mandated lock down, the board had to act quickly and develop some contingencies and interim solutions to adapt until a new normal could emerge.    Trying to figure out how to adapt to

urgent needs and ensure that our non-profit could weather the storm without loosing site of our long term visions and strategies became our focus .

Our biggest fundraiser is our annual "Walking for Warriors" event.  In 2020 we went virtual with an average of 66 walkers pledging to walk solo or with their small group.

In addition to the walk, the phenomenal support that we received from memorials and private donations etc., allowed us to continue our mission to provide financial support to those in need.

Christie Farrow, local breast cancer fighter is just one of the many stories of how REFUGE came through during her personal fight with cancer during the pandemic.  "I am so appreciative of this group and the help and support they have given me during this journey.  Without them, my trips to MD Anderson would have been much more stressful, if not impossible.  The gift cards for food and hotel accommodations were incredible.  I can't thank this group enough for their financial support and prayers, " says Christie.

Physical visits became phone calls and any deliveries were made using the "porch fairy" philosophy.

As we learned how to serve others through our ministry during a pandemic, we became  more vigilant than ever in "Reaching Everyday Fighters Utilizing God's Embrace."

If you or someone you know could benefit from our services to provide financial support to cancer fighters then please do not hesitate to reach out to us by phone, email, or mail.  We are here to serve our community and have been richly blessed by our loving and faithful donors.
